Oxford Castle Mound is a Scheduled Ancient Monument, under the stewardship of the Oxford Preservation Trust. Greenford is proud to be one of a select few contractors approved to work on areas of such historical significance. The 11th century castle motte needed careful, considered refurbishments for preservation of such an important monument, and to ensure that the public could continue to safely visit the site.
We carried out refurbishment of the soil slippage. This ecologically sensitive project in the city centre involved tree protection measures and traffic and footpath diversions.
We installed an innovative new soil retaining system reinforced with 'Terramesh' and installed with filter drains and outfalls.
Visitors can now safely climb the mound for unbeatable views of the city of Oxford and an experience of a fascinating history which dates back to 1071.
